It reached a five-month high versus the pound last week and a near 14-year high against the Swedish crown this week.<br \/><br \/><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24.5px; font-family: inherit;\">Rates Starting to Move<br \/><br \/><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">The European currency gained ground against the dollar as investors braced for the potential that the Federal Reserve of the United States may stop rising interest rates before the European Central Bank. <br \/><br \/>The Fed is also likely to lower interest rates <\/span><a style=\"font-family: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/02\/01\/european-central-bank-may-leave-rates-higher-for-longer-as-it-deals-with-inflation.html\">faster than the ECB<\/a><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">.<\/span><\/p><p>&#8220;<em>Higher or lower interest rates didn&#8217;t matter as long as petrol prices were such a big driver for the euro.
